A year of vegetables

August 5, 2010

Love to eat. Love to cook.

What could be better than fresh, in-season vegetables all year round?

Cabbage

Tried a cole slaw recipe. It was supposed to have tongue in it, but I didn’t want meat. So it wound up largely a pretty average cole slaw. No do-overs.

Rutabaga and Carrot Purée

Very, very good. Mostly a carrot flavor, but the rutabagas add an earthiness that is addictive. Yes, this contains butter and sugar. I’ll get over it.

Grilled Red and Green Cabbage Slaw

I love cabbage, but generally of the cooked persuasion. This slaw recipe finds the cabbage on the grill, and cooks it enough to take away the raw cabbagey taste and texture. This is probably the best cole slaw I’ve ever had.

Zucchini Trifolata

This Mediterranean-style zucchini dish had me eating it for breakfast, though I’m not a huge zucchini fan. Garlic gives it depth and basil adds an herbal note.
